The three statements
| What it shows | |
|---|---|
| Form 26AS (Form 168 from tax year 2026-27) | Tax credited to your PAN: TDS, TCS and tax you paid yourself |
| Annual Information Statement (AIS) | Everything reported about you: salary, savings and FD interest, dividends, share and mutual fund sales, and other high-value transactions |
| Taxpayer Information Summary (TIS) | The AIS added up by category. Its values, after your feedback, pre-fill your return |
How to get them
Log in to the e-filing portal and open AIS. You can download it as a PDF, JSON or CSV. There's also the "AIS for Taxpayer" mobile app.
What to check
- TDS from your employer matches Form 16 (Form 130)
- Savings and FD interest: add all of it to your return, even with no TDS
- Share and mutual fund sales: these mean capital gains to report
- Entries that aren't yours, or are counted twice
Something's wrong?
Give feedback on that entry in the AIS: for example, that it's a duplicate, belongs to someone else or is the wrong amount. The revised value shows next to the reported one, and you can change your feedback as often as you need to. If TDS is missing, ask the deductor to correct their TDS return.
It isn't the full picture
The AIS shows only what has been reported to the department. Income that isn't in it, like rent you received, still goes in your return.
