When
Your employer sets the date, usually between December and February. Proofs are only needed if you chose the old regime for TDS. In the new regime, there's usually nothing to submit.
Proof checklist

| Life insurance | Premium receipt for this year |

Your own EPF contribution counts for 80C without any proof: it's in your payroll.
Rent receipts
- Each receipt shows your name, the landlord's name, the address, the amount, the month and the landlord's signature.
- For rent over ₹1 lakh a year, add the landlord's PAN.
- Cash payments over ₹5,000 need a ₹1 revenue stamp, signed across by the landlord.
- Rent to a parent who owns the house works if you really pay it and they show it in their return. Keep bank records.
Missed the deadline?
Your employer will cut more tax in the last months, and Form 130 (earlier Form 16) won't show the deduction. You can still claim it in your return under the old regime, filed by 31 July. Keep the proofs: the department can ask for them.
